Job Description:
The Department of Medicine (DoM), within the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto is seeking the inaugural Novo Nordisk Research Chair in Equitable Care of Diabetes and Related Conditions (NN Chair). The successful candidate must have advanced research training and a track record of excellence in diabetes and/or chronic disease research focused on populations, health systems and communities, already hold, or be eligible for, a full-time clinical faculty appointment in the DoM at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, hold an MD degree and have, or be eligible for, licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
Job Responsibilities:
- The candidate will be expected to work with patients, families, health care providers and other local community stakeholders in Mississauga and Peel Region to co-design, implement, and evaluate effective, feasible and equitable interventions that consider local context and needs.
- They will also commit to sharing their knowledge locally and broadly so that findings can be applied across multiple settings.
- To accomplish this, the candidate will be expected to have experience in community-based research and to demonstrate their ability to build trusting and sustainable relationships with communities in Mississauga and Peel Region, with a particular focus on Indigenous and racialized communities.
- The candidate will foster a cross-disciplinary community-focused vision and build capacity with learners and community members.
- They will be expected to participate in the Network’s overall strategic priorities as a core member of the scientific steering committee, to contribute to the education and training program, to collaborate with other Network members in cross-disciplinary initiatives, and to champion innovation and out-of-the-box thinking.
- It is the expectation of the Temerty Faculty of Medicine that the chairholder will have a record of sustained excellence in teaching and mentorship to provide mentorship to early faculty and trainees across the spectrum of diabetes and chronic disease prevention and supportive care.
Job Requirements:
- The candidate will have demonstrated a record of excellence in scientific productivity and leadership, and will have a record of commitment to promotion of health equity.
- Consideration will be given to the applicant’s record of scholarly activity (including grants, peer-reviewed publications, program development, collaborations with organizations nationally and internationally, supervision and mentorship of graduate students and fellows) and contributions to the field.
- The chair will support academic activities of the chair holder, which may include salary support, research operations, and relevant educational events.
- Additionally, they will bring with them strong administrative, collaborative leadership, and interpersonal skills. Fundraising skills and experience would be an asset.
- The term of the Chair position is 5 years with the opportunity for one 5-year renewal following a successful review.
- The successful candidate will be supported by a chair, which will fund research support, including salary.
- Clinical activities and related compensation, if applicable, will be negotiated with the relevant Department and Division heads.
